Change log

The following updates may produce slight changes in results. A warning will appear on all existing old scenario signifying a version change and potential change in results if the scenarios are rerun.

The following updates have been applied across all existing instances of Natural Capital Region.

Nutrient Speciation

The reduction in particulate nutrients has previously been managed based on reduction in erosion processes. This approach has been extended to include dissolved nutrients where the proportion associated with erosion processes is managed in line with any reduction on erosion processes.

Water quality yield effectiveness for revegetation actions

The initial condition yield (load per Ha) for revegetation actions was based on the yield for hillslope erosion on forested grazing. This has been changed to open grazing (slightly higher initial erosion rates).

For preservation actions, the initial yield was based on hillslope erosion from forested grazing and the area of woody vegetation (which also includes conservation areas) giving a slightly lower initial yield than expected. This has been updated to ensure the load and area are from the same starting land type.

percentage improvement

Reported percentage improvement for water quality was comparing the reduction in pollutant delivered to the stream with the initial pollutant generation. The proportion of pollutant generated that makes it to the stream varies by erosion process. For hillslope erosion this could be as little as 20% of pollutant generated reaches the waterway. The previous percentage improvement was underestimating improvement for water quality where improvement was dominated by reduced hillslope erosion.

The initial condition view for any instance of Natural Capital Region can be shared via a unique URL. The Results of any scenario can be shared by a unique URL.

Qld Lake Eyre region (Desert Channels NRM region) is now available

All instances of Natural Capital Region open to a new view ‘Condition’ which allows creating interactive heat maps by combining the current condition of indicators.

Targets can set (as percentage improvement) for any of the indicators. Scenarios can be run in ‘meet targets’ mode to create the most cost effective portfolio of actions to meet targets.

Mackay Whitsunday region (spatial extent of Reef Catchments NRM region) now available

Margaret River region (Geographe bay) Western Australia now available

In developing the upcoming implementation of Natural Capital Region in the Margaret River region of Western Australia, it became clear that actions to limit phosphorus delivery to streams needed to be handled.

The new indicators are available in all instances of Natural Capital Region

Natural Capital Region available in South East Qld (Healthy Land and Water NRM region)

Natural Capital Region available in Burnet Mary region (spatial extent of the Burnet Mary Regional Group)

Qld Murray Darling Basin region available (spatial extent of Southern Qld Landscapes NRM region)

Initial release of Burnett Mary region instance of Natural Capital Region for testing and review

Yield based calculation

Updated computation to ensure that if Action yield (e.g. t/ha reduction) is greater than the initial condition Yield, that the maximum possible reduction is limited to the initial condition yield.

Microbial data

The initial condition microbial data (derived using Baker et al (2016)) updated to reflect a less conservative estimate of potential microbial pollution (Herds located near waterways without buffer zones). This is to reflect observed survey results conducted in South East Queensland.

Initial release of Natural Capital Region (Queensland Murray Darling Basin Region)

Beta release of Natural Capital Region for testing. This initial version includes revegetation project types and can be applied anywhere in Australia.

Natural Capital Credit has been retired.

Functionality to allow for Verification of Reef Credits to occur outside the Application has been added. Under the ‘Select Verifier’ dropdown, users can select “Manage Verification outside the Application”. Then select the ‘Generate report’ button to create the monitoring report summary.

Verifiers can now nominate reviewers from within their group. Reviewers are given access per monitoring report. Reviewers have read only access to the monitoring report to support the Verifier in revieing a monitoring report. Only the nominated project Verifier has write access to approve/verify the monitoring report.

Release of V1.0. Includes Sugarcane, Banana, Grazing and Cropping industries.

Version handling will allow upload of projects (collections) created in P2R Projector from September 2021.
